About Contributors
Contributors may add content and edit the Race & Law Wiki. Contributors have been granted
editing rights by me, the Wiki Administrator. Contributors require a password to edit
the wiki. If you are a faculty member or academic librarian and would like to contribute, please
contact me.
Guidelines for Contributors
I encourage all contributors to participate in the growth and editing of the wiki.
However, please note that all changes will be reviewed by me, the Wiki Administrator,
and can be 'undone' at my discretion.
Please follow these protocols when editing or updating the wiki:
Content Changes
1. Contributors may add or edit relevant new content to any of the categories already
present in the wiki. If you would like to create a new topic or a new category
under an existing heading or reorganize the existing headings, please let me know beforehand.
I will be automatically notified about changes to the wiki. I will contact you if I have
questions about the relevance or location of the information you have added.
I would be happy to add or edit content for you. Just email me at wescott@law.syr.edu.
2. Please do not delete content
If you have a compelling reason for deleting existing content, please email
me with details about the content you wish to delete and your reasons. I will
consider your request and reply to you before taking any action. I will restore all
deleted content unless you have contacted me beforehand and I have
approved the deletion.
3. If you wish to add links to licensed databases or other restricted or limited
content, please indicate the restriction with your entry. Remember, this is a
public wiki, and the whole world can access the site! See examples of restriction statements
under the various topics on the site.
Copyrighted Material
1. Please obtain appropriate copyright clearance for all copyrighted files, documents
and images that you wish to add to the wiki. Include copyright permission statements
with all such materials that you add.
2. I will contact you if I have questions or require clarification about the copyright
status of any material that you post to the wiki, and your additions may be removed
from the site until permission has been confirmed.
3. Please do not edit or delete copyright permission statements included with others'
entries. If you have questions or concerns about the status of anything on the wiki,
please contact me.
Posts that violate the above guidelines, offensive or inappropriate material or
links to any such material may be edited or deleted by the administrator or her
designee at her sole discretion. To report guideline violations contact wescott@law.syr.edu.
Formatting Protocols
The PBwiki Point and Click editor cannot always display the same formatting that other
web pages or word processors use.
Remove all formatting from text before you paste it into the wiki.
Here's how I do it.
1. Copy the original document text.
2. Open up Notepad and paste it in.
3. Copy all the text in Notepad.
4. Paste the (now unformatted) text into the wiki.
Notepad removes all the formatting for you. Any plain text editor will work just as well as Notepad.
Once you have the text in your wiki page, you can use the Point and Click editor's toolbar to format it exactly as you want.
I recommend that you create and spell-check your text in Word or Wordperfect using the style
sheet below, then cut and paste content into the wiki. There is no spell-checker in this wiki!
If you are comfortable with HTML, you can use the "Source" icon in the
editing bar to make editing changes.
In order to ensure consisistency, please use the following formatting protocols:
Font:
Navigation Sidebar - Table of Contents Entries: Verdana X-Small
Page Headings: Verdana Small Bold
Text: Verdana X-Small
Text Color: Gray - 80 %
Paragraphs:
Single-spaced; left alignment; not justified
Double-space between headings on the page
Citation Forms:
Legal citations: Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 18th ed.
Non-legal citations: Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed.
Tips and Tricks
1. Sometimes, your first attempt at saving your changes will not work.
Just use the "Back" button to return to the page and save again.
2. Changes may affect formatting on the rest of a page. Please check
the entire page after making changes and adjust formatting where necessary.
